I had a great time in ArcheAge this past weekend. I believe a key to that is being willing to participate in all that the game has to offer beyond the safe PVE. I did a little bit of everything minus dungeons. The list of things I want to do and can do keeps me busy for as much time as I want to invest. I've purposefully reservesed seeing dungeons until release and have long since begged off PVE. However, I did a few quests over the weekend to gain more leveling XP. A guild member has a great level 40 cloth chest piece for me that I'm very close to claiming.
Too Little Tiime
Alone I was able to complete one trade pack turn in on the other continent but it was SO close. I barely escaped an attempted attack. Too close for comfort, I did the remaining 4 on my side of the pond. I still used my ship to sail across to that side of the coastline before using my donkey the rest of the way. The trip isn’t bad. I talk in voice chat or listen to a podcast along the way. But it sure would be nice to have a farm wagon. With one, I could have done it all in a single trip. When the game releases, getting a farm wagon will be a priority after securing land.
I enjoyed myself just bopping along. I'm probably a bit of an odd duck. I like harvesting resources and completing activities that send me through the game world like a regular denizen. Especially self directed goals like crafting and partcipating in the enconomy.
Successful Guild Trade Runs and More
It was all around good luck with cross continental trade runs over the weekend. I didn’t hear of any losses. I participated in a guild one myself, which lead to much more than just the gold payout.
After our smooth sailing into enemy territory to turn in trade packs, Fannel suggested we go get the other racial mounts. Doing so would mean making it past elite faction guards around the city in order to reach the mainland. From there, it’s mostly just a long haul over to the new character zones.
We had some casualties making it into and out of the other side of the city. My horse was a victim. I was lassoed off the mount, who was then hit and died instantly. I kept running to where we were meeting up and leapt/glided to safety. There was no way anyone of us could survive fighting the faction guards. There was confusion and funny chaos – running, hiding, dodging and squealing. We lost a level 40 along the way which is when I did a quick skills reset and picked up resurrection. After losing my mount, I rode shotgun with Belphagore or Srenic. Local Stables won’t resurrect mounts or pets for the enemy faction.
Things were pretty much uneventful after that point. We attacked upper level players we encountered. We rode and soared through beautiful landscapes. It’s hard to describe the fun and excitement of racing up a mountainside, leaping off together to glide as far as possible. Seeing who can maneuver themselves to catch the most wind and go the farthest. Who can successfully land on the tiptop of the next mountain peak in one go, as you glide from one destination to the next.
I was only able to get one of the other faction mounts. Weather and an unstable internet connection conspired against me and I got tired of them having to wait. I’m not going to level up a new mount at this point anyway. It was enough just to go along for the joy ride.
