I'm always exhausted the weekend I return home from traveling. I was also ravenous for GW2 and spent the majority of the weekend at it. My Mesmer reached 80 on Saturday. Finishing the last few levels felt like a chore I wanted to end as quickly as possible. This is mostly due to the fact that I CAN'T STAND ORR.
I might have skipped it altogether except that having parked the Guardian at the rich Ori node in Southsun, I need the Mesmer to harvest for her too when she's out. So if I had to be out leveling I should at least spend some time where I can get the top tier cooking items. OMG why are so many of them in Orr. I detest that place. I can tolerate Cursed Shore a bit more because navigating the area to harvest is a little less annoying but not by much.
When I wasn't gnashing my teeth in Orr, I was enjoying myself in Frostgorge Sound. This will go down as the only snowy zone I've actually liked enough to stick around in after hitting max level. I felt Rift was the first MMO to develop a compelling snowy zone but this tops even that design. It's relaxing, casual questing and harvesting. Not the frantic constantly under siege can't get to the waypoint you want of Orr. And there's Journag, one of my hands-down favorite world boss events.
I don't know about people who were playing Mesmers claiming that Guardians were OP. That's right Sarzan, I'm looking at you! (LOL) Seriously!?! I started doing Journag on my Mesmer when she late 60s in level 65 gear. Across that whole time that I did the events before hitting 80 I was downed about half dozen times. Whereas my Guardian goes down 2 to 3 times each event and she's using a Meditation build wearing Cleric armour for that event.
I now have two 80s to harvest Ori nodes. When I find one spawning near a waypoint I'll pop the Guardian over too. Having two chars pulling that in has definitely increased my ability to sell exotic jewelry. Now I need to do the math however, to determine if it's more profitable selling the Artificer's exotics or the Jeweler's. I can't support two professions selling exotics that use the same rares. I want to keep the crafting fun and casual but profitable.
Playing the Black Lion Market
Once I save up some more gold I want to do a controlled experiment in playing the market. Start with a set amount of gold to invest in the adventure and track the results over a 60 day period. I also want to do all the instances. I skipped most of them while leveling the Mesmer. I've been waiting for a real LFG tool and am curious about what we'll find in the late Jan update.
When I can squeeze in the time, I still plan on dumping market data into an analytics tool to help with the flipping experiment but the next few weeks will be a bit tight. My oldest daughter is getting married on Valentine's Day so it's crush time now.
