I rarely do alt in MMOs that I expect to level up to maximum. World of Warcraft remains the big exception because of the length of time I played. I had two characters in EQ2 but only one was for adventuring. I had two characters in Rift, where the second one was specifically to level with a friend who came to play well after launch. Even then, I redid the cleric and flipped back to my original toward the end since she was already geared for T2. The friend I made my second run through Rift with came to try GW2 over the holidays. Creating a character to use for that purpose reminded me of two things.
My first hurdle was deciding on a new class between the three I had in mind to try, Mesmer, Engineer and Necromancer. I had a hard time choosing between them during beta until I tried the Guardian who quickly stole my heart. Once again, I created one of each with the intention of playing until level 5 to help decide. It was hard decsion. I enjoyed them all for different reasons. I kept flipping back and forth between them but still couldn't make up my mind. When two of them hit level 8, I didn't want to go any further so I simply picked the Mesmer.
I'm not sure my friend will return to GW2. He's been entrenched in WOW since Vanilla on an uninterrupted subscription. Several max level toons, every crafting profession, a flourishing farm and 1M gold is hard to walk away from. I hope he comes back. Static duos are fun. Either way, I will get my Memser to level 80.
My Mesmer is level 25 now and entering one of my favorite zones, Gendarran Fields. Mesmer, oh my! This class is more fun than it has the right to be. I'm doing a Phantasm and conditions build. Clones galore! No meas spirited shattering of my mates. And I've developed an evil streak in me. The darker side of questing out in the wilds. Don't leave yourself AFK near a Christmas box or you might come back to a corpse. I savior the salty tears of AFK meat shields. I know. It's a horrible thing to do but it's so damn funny.
I only picked up one profession on my new character, Artificer. I plan to keep my crafting leveled along side this time so I can make two of the weapons she uses along with the sigils. I still do my farming route and crafting on the Guardian. A gal's got to earn a living. However, my once favorite class may fall to second when this one hits level 80.
Add this to your rl JC profession ;) Copper should be a dash cheaper than silver...

Wow, that's gorgeous. As much as I love Steampunk and Victorian, it's not an aesthetic I can achieve. There's something about the ordered clutter that my eye can't envision. I'm more minimalist/bohemian and minimalist/modern. I'll have to admire the creations of others in that genre. *sigh*
