Queensdale, Kessex Hills and Gendarran Fields still top my list of favorite Guild War 2 zones. There are more atypical zones with unique race choices instead of being a human and starting in Queensdale. Yet for those of us who love the Middle Earth vibe, this is a joyous and golden romp. I start my farming runs out of Queensdale all the time and am still not bored of the sights and sounds. I hop over to the Charr and Norn areas as well but for me, nothing beats these three - so far.
3 Things to Do in Kessex When You’re Not Dead
If you haven’t strayed off the more frequented paths in Kessex Hills, here are a few treats you have missed. Even if you’ve already obtained the vista near the Wizard’s Fief, you might have missed one of these goodies. I see people run by it all the time when I’m up there picking strawberries. To follow along on this adventure, you start your trip from the Cereboth Canyon way point.1 - Strawberry Fields
Run south from the Cereboth Canyon portal, hugging the cliff on the east side. Run passed or fight the few Etins you encounter along the way. For a faster trip you can avoid fighting the ones you pass in the canyon - navigate around them or speedrun by. They won’t chase you very far. However, you will need to kill the three guarding the strawberries on the plateau. The right location also happens to be a Point of Interest.
After you dispatch those nasty Etins to their maker, harvest the strawberries there AND hop over and STEP DOWN to the strawberries east of you. You’ll see goats there. DO NOT JUMP DOWN to the outcropping below you. if you do, you’ll need to port back to Cereboth to do the next part. Note that your ability to harvest rarer items such as these strawberries are on daily timer. You won’t see them as available for harvesting again for what appears to be a 24-hour cool down. For a cook strawberries are a good resource for leveling by making desserts - cookies, frosting, pies, tarts, etc.
I harvested strawberries in this area MANY TIMES before I noticed the goggles near the edge of the cliff. You see sparkling objects all over the place, most of which are related to quest objectives and they typically have no useful value when you’re done with that quest. For that reason, I ignore most of them when I’m on a harvest run. The other day however, one my caught my attention after I’d harvested the strawberries..
Hmm, goggles. Sahweet! Of course I’m going to put them on. When I did my armor was transformed into a bathing suit. Not my favorite shade but whatevs. Let’s see. I’m standing on a cliff in a bathing suit and there’s water below me. You know what must follow. Run and jump!! If you go off the point correctly, you’ll land safely in the water. YOUR CHARACTER WILL SCREAM ON THE WAY DOWN.. Too funny!
3- Room with a View
I need player housing. Sure, Guild Halls would be an ohkay interim solution but for my money, player housing would be better. Even cash shop only houses like EQ2 Prestige houses beats none. Better yet, I don’t even need a whole house. Having a room in an inn like the starter rooms in EverQuest II or Runes of Magic would suffice. Just tell me who I have to do something unmentionable to to have one and... err...umm...yeah, that’s probably TMI.
I already know where I want to live. Wizard’s Fief is the place for me. We can’t get to the castle in the sky but I’m hopeful that an expansion will open it up in the future Come on now, this is Middle Earth meets Miyazaki’s Castle in the Sky. What more could I possibly need from a fantasy MMO environment? NOTHING. I have a great class, wonderful content, a world that feels alive, beautiful zones, fun cooking profession, PvP and WvW, PLEASE GIVE ME PLAYER HOUSING. *Taking a deep breath. Trying to calm myself*
I’ve already packed my bags and am ready to move into the neighborhood. I checked with the neighbors and they swear there are plenty of places for rent. I’ve already picked mine out. It’s simple living but has a bonus room upstairs with a magical contraption I just know can gain me access to the castle floating over head. I just need to figure it out.
I hope ANet doesn’t let me down. I’m itching for player housing. Other people can go off and grind for legendary gear. I’ll grind for a house.
Nearby Vista and Skill Point
If you haven’t done so, you might as well get the vista and the strawberries down there too. Hop back over to the platform to the east that had the goats on it. Tilt your camera down and you’ll see the platform with the vista. Line yourself up and jump down. Score. Afterward, jump into the water and swim to the peer to pick up a skill point.
