It’s been extremely busy for me in game the past couple of weeks. This is a good thing since I’m running a furniture shop in EQ2 Extended. I’m still trying to strike the right balance between making and setting up new showroom displays when I learn more recipes, managing custom orders, executing house design projects, farming components and leveling my main. *Whew* At times it’s very daunting and I question my ability to sustain this endeavor. I also have other projects mapped out that will require a significant amount of effort.
Everyone Needs Personal Space
One such project is my “House within a House” which is almost finished. Here’s a sneak peak - an aerial view of the exterior. I will blog the whole crazy idea soon. In a nutshell, because my Erollisi Manor is really a showroom for Alysiaa’s Friendly Furnishings, I didn’t feel like she had a home of her own. I considered having an alt purchase one for her but she actually needs to be on the premises so much that it didn’t feel like a good solution. When the patios were added, I decided to build a small private residence behind the store for her instead. I’m extremely happy with the results. It feels like "her", whereas the shop is decorated and styled for the masses. Once I finish landscaping the exterior, it will be job complete!
Consultations, Custom Ensembles and Aquariums
New visitors to the showroom have slowed down. I’m not surprised. I haven’t advertised it almost three weeks! I’ve been consumed with finishing full-home furnishing projects which I won’t be doing in the future. It’s just too much on top of the shop, where a large part of my business is building custom items which I then make and also install for customers. I just don’t have the wind to furnish and decorate entire homes. I’m now doing consultations where I help players coordinate the furnishings, make the furnishings and only decorate one or two of their rooms myself. They do the other rooms which is made easier by having coordinated all the items with someone's assistance before hand.
Most of my customers are fine with the change. They understand that I can only do but so much as one person. In fact, a few have really taken up the challenge of becoming skilled decorators themselves, with me simply furnishing the supplies. *Smile* Deveau is one such customer. Shortly after I completed a full home project for her Glacial Villa home, she decided to move to Erollisi. There was no way in heck I could take on doing another manor home. We talked about it and decided that I would only do the rooms that contained my custom designs, her kitchen and master bedroom boudoir.
I’ve asked Deveau to be included in the November issue of my EQ2 Home Decorating DIY mini-magazine. The issue will discuss how to go about building aquariums. I recently added one to the Halas showroom while Deveau was simultaneously building one in her home, which came out fabulously. And yes, I must now distinguish by saying Halas showroom because I constructed a small one in Kelethin. It hasn't been advertised yet. I still have to put up the price books. My long term plan is to have one in each of the player cities. So yeah, saying that I’m very busy in EQ2X is an understatement!!
