A post by Ravious on Kill Ten Rats brought back fond memories of Wizard101. It’s funny how things turn out. I expected to dislike Marleybone because of its perpetual nighttime but it ended up being my favorite zone by a landslide. I was sure I’d adore Mooshu because of is bright zones, flowered landscapes and oriental styling but it was the zone I detested. It also was taking too long to complete and felt significantly more repetitive than the previous zones. I eventually gave up and unsubscribed. The bad press coming out about Dragonspyre, the next zone I'd hit, didn’t help.
With nothing else on my horizon and an urge to play something, I decided I’d rather give my money and micro-transaction purchases to KingsIsle than the Robber Barons of Allods. After re-subscribing it only took two short playing sessions to finish off Mooshu and depart that zone forever. What I liked about W101 still stands. I can jump on and only do a couple of quests or take on some instanced bosses when I have more time.
Bosses everywhere
A lot of new content and features have been added since I last played. For one, every fight in Dragonspyre is like a mini-boss encounter. I was VERY surprised the first time I stepped off the side walk to pick a fight. No matter, I’ve adjusted my short deck accordingly and I’ve yet to die or use paid Henchman.
Zoom on my broom
I don’t think it could be more Harry Potter
like than zooming around on a broomstick in the Wizard City. Seriously,
why is anyone buying horses or any other four-legged creature as a
mount? Tastes vary but c’mon, you have to have a broomstick in W101!!!
Catnip anyone?
Of all the games that needed the ability to have gear appearance customization this was the one!!! And I ADORE IT!! I used to parade around in my costume armor (looked good but had inappropriate stats) all the time. It was inconvenient carrying multiple sets of armor around. Bag space, which can’t be increased, is “just enough” for holding personal items and vendor trash. I love that I can now merge what I want to look like with what I need to wear for combat. I was so excited by the variety of RP-rich gear, I dubbed myself a persona named Melanie Clotheshorse, through which I wrote a few quick stories.
Decorating my room
I’m not going out of my way to decorate my room. I include things as they come. Since others can’t freely visit your room I personally don’t see the point. For my tastes the houses (islands) are too big. I don’t want or need something that size when there’s no real benefit or functionality tied to house. For 10K crowns, I think I’ll pass. I'm not into owning huge open spaces.
Gimme that
I’ve been harvesting items but not crafting. Here again, I read a lot of complaints about the crafting system so I’ll pass for now. I don’t have the time and I’m not in the mood for a grind. When I figure out where to find the new auction house features I may just sell the stuff for gold. I also need to figure out how I get to Grizzlehelm. I keep forgetting to search the forums.
For a few weeks at least, I'll be bumping around W101 when I have time to play.
I believe in the area that leads to Firecat Alley (& the other two 'streets') there's a Bear pilot who will port you to Grizzlehelm. I think. It's been a while since I was there.

Yup, he's off the "edge" to the left as you face those elemental alleyways. Edgeward from the auction house, as it happens.
/e needs to go back to W101, too
