It feels good to be better. I still have a head cold but the sore throat and fever have gone. I have a busy weekend ahead. I'm working on the lessons I missed in the writing workshop while I was sick, getting this week's assignment done AND preparing for the first critique of the screenplay I'm working during the workshop. That's a lot to complete across a weekend.
I don't know if it will surprise you but it certainly surprised me that I could spend a total of FOUR HOURS trying to construct a one sentence plot description of my screenplay, known as the logline. Distilling a whole plot down to so few words while delivering compelling interest was very challenging.
In the mayhem of recovering, catching up at work and getting on with the workshop, I've seen the opportunity for mini-games. Mind you, I'm still not a fan but I've now experienced the urge for ultra casual no emotional investment 10-minutes-n-go gaming. It's 2 AM and I'm laying in bed with my head still spinning. I reached for the tablet PC that stays on the nightstand and wished for something quick to play - unwind my mind and help me to relax enough to fall asleep.
Over the course of a few nights I played free trial versions of Bookworm Adventures, Cake Mania and Farm Frenzy. I thought they were all cute enough for that type of game. I enjoyed Bookworm enough that I purchased a copy. The experience open my mind to the circumstances under which I might play mini games if there were RPG elements. This led me to re-considering Free Realms when I have time to create a character again and see if I'd liked it more if I thought of it as a portal to mini-games like BigFishGames.com and not a MMO.
That reminds me of the character of Grand from The Plague. He spent months working on the opening line of his book.
