All Roads Lead to WAR

Around the state all of our family members and acquaintances that play online games have suspended their online subscriptions to play Warhammer Online.  I have cousins that have until now played exclusively on XBox Live.  I have friends and acquaintances that were still dabbling in WOW.  A few members of my immediate family still had WOW accounts even though they weren't playing them much at all.  A quick check in with these folks this past weekend revealed that everyone has purchased WAR.  My family did the CE versions, while the remaining did the regular pre-orders.  This is huge and only fuels my excitment over finally moving into a new MMO for the long haul.

Open RVR Crashes me into Oblivion

Well the jury is in and I have the same problem as my nephew.  Open RVR consistently and without fail crashes my PC.  It would be a tiny bit more palatable if it crashed to the desktop but it doesn't.  It crashes the OS leaving me blue-screened and having to reboot.  Scenarios are doing the same thing after 5 minutes or so.  This is brutal.  I like PVP and especially enjoy doing it to break up the leveling routine.

I'm searching the Internet and finding that there are others having the same problem with open RVR.  I upgraded my graphics card for AOC and have 4 GB of RAM.  Man this sucks!

Quick Hello

I'm back home and thankfully so.  It's nice to get away on business to an area where I can also see some of my best friends.  It's also a good thing to be able to work with my boss face-to-face for a few days.  The only thing I can do without is being delayed several hours on the trip back and arriving without my luggage.  Delta Airlines FTL.

I had a quick word with my nephew who I gave complete access to my WAR Open BETA account.   He immediately said he got bored at level 20 (OB level cap) because his computer consistently crashes trying to do open RVR. Hmm.  I think he had the same problem with the Scenarios but I hope I misunderstood because we have the same PC and I didnt have any issues before Open BETA and didn't get to try it myself to know if a problem was introduced that will affect my PC too.  Since his tone was rather flippant I assumed that he didn't like WAR as much as WOW.  He's been a staunch WOW/Blizzard fan and was the last of us to bail playing regularly.  However, when I commented, "Oh so I guess you didn't like it as much as WOW."  He quickly but rather begrudgingly said, "No, it's better than WOW if I can get to play all of it."  That's a HUGE thing for him to say based on only playing OB and up to level 20!

Friday of WAR Open Beta

I was excited to find out that WAR Preview Event players are getting a two day early entrance into the Open Beta.  Since I’m going to be out of town on business from Saturday to Saturday, this was cool news to me.  I rushed through the final stages of doing my cleaning the house, doing my nails, washing my hair and packing my clothes so I could sit down with WAR for the evening.

With only one evening to play it didn’t make sense to me to bother with questing.  I also don’t want to do more of the content that I will do on my main and alts since two are the same race.  I sat down to do some Public Quests and jump into RVR at level five so I’d have a few more abilities.  I had lots of fun doing the PQs which was a given.  Unfortunately the environment was really unstable.  I spent 30 minutes playing then 20 minutes trying to login after the game crashed.  Then I’d get to play for15 minutes followed by another 20 minutes trying to log in.  Oh well, it’s beta and I don’t mind.  I just hope whatever these issues are worked about before the Head Start and actual game release.

Two of my favorite movies were on HBO to help pass the time as I logged in over and over.  The Astronaut Farmer and 300 are excellent sources of diversion in such a situation.  Costal cities in Georgia are being evacuated because of Hanna.  Living in a small town, I get to flight out on crop duster sized planes.  I hope this either passes us by or enough rain comes to just ground the flights.  Flying during the in between weather, thunderstorms in particular, in a small plane is NOT a pleasant experience.

Anyway time to go and try logging in some more.  My time to play is ticking away much too quickly.
