Ala EverQuest, I think World of Warcraft needs to turn the Cooking profession into a primary profession. Like tailoring, the gathering process is passive because it doesn't require a specific skill to obtain the components. However, unlike tailoring, to obtain the comps needed for the buffing foods, you do have to execute a focused effort to acquire the items - most of which, aren't available for puchase on the AH.
Serious pursuit of cooking as a profession was one of my favorite things to do on EQII. My provisioner level was always higher than my toon's playing level. I think it adds a very nice roleplaying opportunity for players. The idea of providing necessary goods - beyond weapons and armor, is appealing to many. Now EQ is a bit different as there are food and beverage slots on each character, making these items a basic need. However, even though that doesn't exist in WOW, most players do use buffed foods during boss fights - especially in the 40-man raids. So why not make it a primary profession? Very little of the existing game dynamic would need to change, save for the fact that people who already have two primarys and cooking, would have to make a choice between them. Or better yet, raise the cap for cooking in some way so that it can go above 300 if it is a primary and add some new recipies.
I think it's a big "miss" on Blizzard's part that cooking isn't a specialized profession. It supports fishing which god knows goes nowhere until you're very high in level, and even then doesn't offer much opportunity for profit, save for a few select fish. Come on, this is a roleplaying game. Lets add a little more RP spice!
I've been dropping in from time to time here to check your posts to keep up with the general flow of all things WoW. Sounds like you're having some good fun with the Priest.
Well, it didn't take me too long before I started missing WoW again and decided to create a new Hunter to play with for a bit. So, for a while anyway, there's a new Tauren Hunter on Kirin Tor named "Tahuchila." No hurry to jump into PvP or BGs with this guy, though. I'm concentrating on pets, quests, and a few instances I missed with my Troll Rogue. (I liked playing a Creature Handler in SWG, and am partial to fictional character that are Ranger-ish with a wild beast for pet, so it fits me almost as well as the Rogue.)
Trying to maintain a better balance between playing and writing than I did in the past, so we'll see how that goes.

Hi Ric - I hope you see this as I can't comment on your blog. Are the links at the top supposed to be active (Maps, Facts Sheetts, etc.)? I can't comment because I'm not logged in but I dont see a link to register for your blog. I'd like to ask some questions there so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Lauren

Those links at the top aren't active yet because they don't have anywhere to go yet, but they will... some fine day. I have control over the blog, as I own the account and pay for the account hosting it as well, but editorial control is still jointly owned and we're not in complete accord yet as to how that stuff is to be implemented right now.
Spam bots blitzed us for a spell a while back, so I locked things way down, but I can create an account for you if you wish.
